MOTION

Motion made at
Annual Meeting 2/13/05 to require the Church
Council to begin an education program on the Open
and Affirming issue, to inform the congregation on
the issue and to put it on the agenda for next
year’s Annual Meeting, by requiring the Council to
address the issue at the next Council meeting and
to revitalize the committee.
CHARGE
o
to
consider the theological, social and legal
implications of the resolution of the Fifteenth
Synod of the UCC which called on the congregations
of the UCC to adopt a non-discrimination policy and
a Covenant of Openness and Affirmation of persons of
lesbian, gay, or bisexual orientation within the
community of faith;
o
to
discuss with other churches how they went through
this process;
o
to
review the current Covenant, policies, and
activities of the Glen Ridge Congregational Church
in light of the call of the Fifteenth Synod;
o
to
consider and evaluate possible changes to the
Covenant, policies, and activities of the Glen Ridge
Congregational Church that could be required to
respond to the call of the Fifteenth Synod, the
steps necessary to implement such changes, and the
possible consequences that could result from such
changes;
o
to
design and prepare a program to inform and educate
the members of the Glen Ridge Congregational Church
with respect to the results and findings of the
Committee; and
o
to
report in person to the Council on the progress of
the Committee at least every other month.

the Council’s directions to the Covenant Review
Committee; passed.
